Bid Day

Last week was one of those "Senior Year" moments for me. It was my pledge class' last Bid Day. Every year during work week for my sorority, it so happens that I end up getting pulled into doing a large part of the decorations or costumes or, well, basically anything crafty and artistic (not that I mind - I love doing it!) This year one of my projects (among many others) was to make a new kite for our Rho Chis to carry from the Hogg Auditorium when they walk with all of the new members to the Theta House on Bid Day. I actually made two kites, but during rush the wooden letters I had painted for one were misplaced. Although I was pretty bummed about it, everyone seemed happy enough with just one new kite, so I decided to just perfect the one I had finished.

I've been going through a disposable camera fix lately, so here's a snapshot of me with the new Texas Theta kite courtesy of my fancy disposable:

My friend Meredith and I "kiting" our friend Anne, her sister Sarah, and the kite I made:

To paint the kite, I started with what I call "messy chevron" using my favorite acrylic paint, Liquitex. I did about three coats of this and let each coat dry before adding a new layer. Choosing the colors for the kite was tricky at first because I initially wanted to stay with the colors of our sorority. Our official colors are black and gold (sometimes yellow gets thrown into the mix as well), but I decided instead to add a little summer color with light blue with metallic gold and gold glitter. Thetas love their glitter.

Before lettering:

After lettering:

For the lettering, I used a small brush and black acrylic paint. After the first layer dried, I carefully went over the lettering one more time to make sure the black was opaque. Once that was finished drying, I added another gold accent by outlining the letters with a metallic gold Sharpie paint pen (oil based) to really make the letters pop!

What I used:

Final Product:

I brought in the black at the end when I did the lettering, which came out great against the light blue and gold.

Another fun thing we do at Theta for Bid Day is make yellow kite posters for each girl that are personalized and have their picture on them. This is probably my favorite part of Bid Day. I had to run to work during the end of the kite making, so I didn't get to take a picture of all of the beautiful kites when they were finished.

To give you an idea of what they look like, this is one of the kites from last year that I did:

This one was for a girl from my high school who went Theta! She actually has her own jewelry shop on Etsy called Duo Beads, and it's awesome. Y'all should really check it out.

Speaking of high school, this year we got three new Thetas from Lamar! Every year we take a group picture with everyone from LHS. Once a redskin, always a redskin.

Thanks for reading, y'all!

Texas bound!

university of texas themed canvases
Happy Tuesday, everyone! I know graduation season is pretty much coming to an end, but I still would love to share these Texas inspired canvases I painted last week. One of my wonderful friends named John showed his mom my blog, and she asked me to paint these two canvases for her niece and a friend. The two canvases both have a little longhorn that I freehanded in the left corner. I've been working on that for a while, so I'm pretty proud of it! Let's get a closer look at each canvas:
soccer ball pattern with a little burnt orange accent
For Cara, I painted a soccer ball pattern because she will be playing soccer at UT next year! ! I really liked the concept, and I thought the burnt orange ("Persimmon" by Americana) detailing brought a fun element to the design.

burnt orange and white chevron
Chevron has officially taken over as my most requested pattern! It has been neck and neck for a while, but I think chevron edged it out this week. For Caroline's canvas,  I did a fun chevron pattern with her name in a dainty script font- complete with another freehanded longhorn, of course!

I hope you girls love your canvases! Thank you Mrs. Curtiss (and John and Emily, too!) Congratulations, and Hook 'Em!

Tulane Theta

Hey y'all! So this canvas was the first order I have gotten from a Theta that isn't from Texas! It's for my friend Emma, and she is a Theta at Tulane. I actually went to high school with her, so I was so happy to get to paint this canvas for her (it was a gift for her little!!) We brainstormed a little bit with different ideas because she said she'd already done something with the Lilly Theta print for one gift, but she still wanted to incorporate Theta into this canvas!

**Okay COOLEST thing ever. Emma literally just texted me telling me thank you and that Sue-Claire loved the canvas! That is so awesome and crazy that I just so happened to be blogging about it right this minute.
kappa alpha theta chevron canvas for Emma and Sue-Claire
So to put a little bit of Tulane and Theta into the canvas, I painted the canvas Tulane colors! My favorite part was the chevron. You can't tell in one of the pictures, but the chevron also SPARKLES. My favorite. Definitely. It was gorgeous when the light hit it! I wrote Kappa Alpha Theta underneath her little's name to incorporate Theta, too. XOXO TLAM

Friendship

turquoise and glitter chevron
Here are some canvases I did for my friend Hannah! She wanted to get matching canvases for her and one of her best friends with this quote. I thought the quote was so pretty that the design needed to be simple, so I painted the background turquoise and did a chevron design with clear glitter.  The glitter chevron was one of my favorite parts! It didn't take away from the quote, so I was really happy with the way it turned out.

Texas Zeta Initiation

A few weeks ago was Zeta Initiation! Two of my friends asked me to paint their crowns for their littles. It was so much fun! I love their colors, and I was so excited to help them out!

I had painted this canvas for Rachel (for her little) earlier this semester, so she wanted her little's crown to have the same sort of theme on it.

I literally love these colors together so much that I wanted to keep this one! Thank you Rachel!!
I did both of the crowns above and the bulletin board!
Hope y'all like the stuff! Thank you Rachel and Caroline for giving me the opportunity to paint for y'all!

Keep Calm and Diamond On

As Thanksgiving break approaches I am really getting excited about some of the things I have in store! I am going to be painting some coolers for the lovely ladies my mom works with and a friend from high school! So far I think I have an A&M themed cooler, a Saints one, a Texans one, and a family themed one! I can't wait to get started on those!! They are SO much fun to do. I am also going to be painting a few canvases! This is one I did a few weeks ago, but I can't remember if I posted it or not! I love all of the Keep Calm signs. This one is for Alpha Delta Pi!

More posts soon. Homeward bound tomorrow! Can't wait to be with the fam.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone, and look out for some exciting posts soon!

Paddles and my awesome fam!

I am so behind on posting these!! We did our paddle reveal a few weeks back, and I am just now getting these bad boys on here. Our initiation was pretty early this year, so we did our paddles for our littles after initiation!
grace's paddle!
gotta have some glitter
paisley, lilly roses, chevron, polo font
These were the Theta paddles I did!

grace janie me...and one of the guys from KISS
My little Grace is AWESOME! and my big Janie is the best. Okay I may be biased, but it's true! This past weekend was Fiji 80s, and we all ran into each other so naturally we had to take a picture! I don't think my face can actually handle a smile that big. So much happiness!
my big!
just the cutest!
I also got to paint a paddle at Melissa's (the store I have an internship with) and I am so happy I got the opportunity to do so! The order was for a Texas Alpha Xi Delta, and she had drawn out exactly what she wanted. I always find it interesting to see what other sororities do for their paddles! Some are heavy with tradition while others are more crafty. I love it!! Here's the one I painted for work:

I am SO excited about the next paddle I am doing for a camp friend! Her name is Tatum, and she is an Alpha Xi Delta at Texas State!! I'm doing the Lilly pattern, so get ready, y'all!

15,000!!!

OH MY GOODNESS. I woke up this morning to a text from my boyfriend saying I had reached 15,000 VIEWS ON MY BLOG!! He was number 15,000, so he was pretty excited about it. *Shout out to Dave!!* That's just crazy- 15 whole thousand views. Just WOW!!!!

This weekend I was so busy painting and doing homework that I barely even posted or checked my blog. Thank you everyone for continuing to check it out every once in a while. It's exciting for me to see the increased traffic! Let's see what I have been up to lately...

Eeek super excited about some things I am posting soon. Christina Williams of Christina Williams Designs (check her out of Facebook- AWESOME things!) had me make a plethora of canvases for her upcoming shows including a few Bible verses, a TCU canvas, her own personal logo, and my favorite...HALLOWEEN CANVASES! It's never too early for Halloween. Starbucks is already kickin' the season off with their delicious pumpkin spice latte...YUM.

Lots of love to all of my viewers and thank you for the support!

10,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO WOO WOO

B KRAFTY HAS HIT 10,000 VIEWS!

I am so so so excited to be able to post about the new marker in my blog's little lifetime. I haven't had a chance to post anything for a while because I have been away at camp, but when I got on today to check my blog's stats, it had hit over 10,000 views!! What a surprise. This summer has been so amazing. I couldn't ask for better friends and family! They have all been so supportive of my little business and encouraged me to keep painting and posting about it. So many friends have asked me for orders of graduation gifts, so here they are!
